Abhinav Mahajan

Hi! I’m a Master’s student in Computer Vision at Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute. My research interests span 3D Vision, multimodal ML, and robotics.

At CMU, I am working with Professor Fernando de la Torre on Streaming 4D Gaussians. With Professor Jeff Ichnowski, I’ve built a zero-shot rope manipulation pipeline (for tasks such as 3D point striking, draping etc.) achieving strong real-world results and is accepted at CoRL 2026!

My industry experience spans core research and production, with work leading to both publications, patents, as well as deployed tools. I’ve done two computer vision research internships at Adobe, focused on design intelligence, and information retrieval research at Amazon, focused on large-scale user-interest modeling. Most recently, I worked on perception at Aurora Innovation, an autonomous trucking company, focusing on label-free perception performance forecasting.

I graduated from IIIT Bangalore’s Dual-Degree program (B. Tech + M. Tech, July 2025), where I worked with Professor Dinesh Babu Jayagopi and Viswanath Gopalakrishnan on various Computer Vision and multimodal problem statements such as virtual avatars and 6D Pose Estimation.

I’m open to exploring full-time (starting Jan 2027) research and applied science opportunities in autonomous driving, embodied AI, 3D vision, and quantitative research.

Outside work, I enjoy football, photography, playing guitar, and chess.

  • [May 2022] Spent the summer working on virtual rehabilitation agents (AVA) in collaboration with University of Toronto x MPL lab, IIIT-B.
